How Canada Manages Wildfire Risk on Its Forests and Public Lands

Wildfire is a natural part of most Canadian forest ecosystems, yet longer fire seasons and expanding communities have turned fire management into one of the country’s most demanding environmental files. Responsibility does not sit in one place. Provinces and territories manage the vast majority of land within their borders, the federal government handles national parks and most Indigenous reserve lands, and a national coordinating body helps everyone share crews and equipment when a single agency runs short. Who Is Actually in Charge

Under Canada’s constitution, natural resources fall largely to the provinces and territories. How Suppression Decisions Get Made
